Wenge is considered a very hard wood and a little heavier than maple. I can attest my Wenge neck is a tad heftier than the roasted maple one I also have in awaiting project funding. If you’ve played on Wenge you already know how it feels.
Hereof, is Wenge a good fretboard?
I had a Warwick bass that had a wenge neck and fingerboard, and I have to say it was one of the slickest necks I have ever played. Even when you get sweaty under stage lights, it stays smooth. As far as tone goes, it adds a nice midrange “bark” to a bass; so I would imagine it would add the same quality to a guitar.
Furthermore, is Wenge heavier than maple? Maple is lighter than Wenge. If you compare a Maple/Maple neck to a Wenge/Wenge neck, you’ll definitely get more than 1/4 pound weight difference.
In respect to this, what is pau ferro fingerboard?
A great wood for instrument fingerboards, pau ferro is a South American tonewood with a smooth feel and sonic characteristics similar to rosewood, but lighter in color and harder.
