Tuning and string gauges
While no standard tuning has been established for baritone guitars, popular tunings for the instrument are: a perfect fourth lower than a standard guitar (B1–E2–A2–D3–F♯3–B3), a perfect fifth lower (A1–D2–G2–C3–E3–A3), or a major third lower (C2–F2–B♭2–E♭3–G3–C4).
Considering this, are 7 string guitars baritone?
Most seven strings are Extended Range Guitars, not Baritones, because most are tuned to standard (EADGBE) with the seventh string tuned to a B below the low E. There are longer-scale seven strings (this generally results in a better-sounding low B string), of course, but they’re generally not referred to as Baritones.
In respect to this, are baritone guitars worth it? It’s a versatile instrument, too. When played in the first position and up to the third fret, baritone guitars produce the classic tone they’re known for. But when played above that, some of the brashness tempers, and they sounds closer to a regular electric guitar, only fatter.

Baritone refers to tuning more so than a particular guitar model. This means you can easily swap out a standard set of strings for a baritone six-string set.

Yes. I’ve tried this, so I know. A standard scale length guitar will not offer proper intonation tuned that far down. A baritone guitar has a longer scale and can stay in tune up and down the neck (I own two baritones).
