The “pancake”-like layers are clearly visible when looking at the edge of the guitar. This process is also known as “crossbanding”, and was done for strength and resistance to cupping/warping. Crossbanding was phased out by 1977.”

In its most recognizable form, the Dragon was a 1959 Telecaster with a stripped Ash body that Page partially painted over with darts and curls of green, orange, yellow, blue and red in a pattern that formed something of a swirling, psychedelic dragon done in a vaguely Japanese style.
A good guitar amp for a beginner is solid-state with a speaker in the 8-12” range. These little amps are usually 10-20 watts. This is more than enough power for a newbie to get started. Look for features like onboard digital effects, reverb, and of course good-quality distortion.

The guitar is relatively easy to tune and has a decent tone for a beginner’s guitar. You could probably get better sound quality by switching out to higher quality strings, but the stock ones sound all right if you’re just getting started. Also, some people like to bring their guitars to the shop to get tuned up.

As you already hopefully know, the five notes in the A minor pentatonic scale are A, C, D, E, and G. The reason the above pattern is called the “first-position” one is because it starts on the first note of the scale — namely, A at the fifth fret of the low E string.
What you want is a molded ABS plastic guitar case with high-quality latches and a TSA lock. Sometimes you’ll see “ATA” (Air Transport Association) listed in the description, or wording such as “ATA approved”, “ATA flight case”, etc. (but not always).
