While all newly-built P and J basses have modern ‘C’ shape necks, the Jazz neck tapers off to a slim 38mm nut width. This is unlike the P’s 43mm and consistent size down the whole neck. Ironically, the Jazz will generally offer more precision than a Precision.
Moreover, are 5 string bass necks wider?
A 4 string bass has a narrower neck, wider string spacing, and is easier to play. In comparison, a 5 string bass has an extra string allowing an extended lower range to play notes in lower keys and the choice of more scales, chords, and arpeggios but has a wider neck and a heavier instrument.
Moreover, are all bass necks the same? Nobody will ever mistake a P Bass neck for a Jazz Bass neck. While most current P Bass and Jazz Bass models feature a modern “C”-shaped neck, generally made of maple, they are distinct in their feel.
Keeping this in view, are J and P Bass necks interchangeable?
Yes, they are interchangable, if the number of frets are the same. A 22 fret Fender neck will not work on a “20 fret” Fender body. It will physically fit, but you will not be able to intonate it.
Are P basses harder to play?
It’s all personal preference. I don’t think they are hard/harder to play at all. I tend to like J width (1.5″) better, but most of my basses are wider than that.
Can a jazz bass sound like a precision?
Both have an iconic tone that has defined how we expect the bass guitar to sound like. But what if you own one and want the sound of the other, and how do you make a jazz bass sound like a Precision bass? The Jazz bass will never sound identical to the P bass, but it is possible to get a tone that closely resembles it.
Does Rickenbacker still make bass guitars?
Currently, Rickenbacker is only producing their 4003 line of bass guitars, specifically the 4003S and 4003W. So, if you are looking for a brand new Rickenbacker bass, those are the two options you’ve got.
How close should bass Pickups be to strings?
Fender recommends 2mm space between the underside of the string and the polepiece for the treble- and 2.8mm space for the bass side for J- and P-basses.
How do I know if my bass action is too high?
The only thing that will really tell you if the action is too high is how comfortable it is to play. If it feels like it’s hard to move around because of the effort of fretting then it is probably too high for you. That being said, if you are fairly new to bass that might not be a good way to judge.
How wide should a bass neck be?
1-11/16″ (43mm) – P Bass®
This is the standard size for P Bass® necks.
Is Jazz Bass hard?
No it is hard. Players tend to develop a bit of a repertoire of changes from one chord leading in to the next – you’ve recognised this – sounds like you’re on the right track.
What is a jazz bass?
Jazz bass is the use of the double bass or electric bass to improvise accompaniment (“comping”) basslines and solos in a jazz or jazz fusion style. Players began using the double bass in jazz in the 1890s to supply the low-pitched walking basslines that outlined the chord progressions of the songs.
Which Fender bass has a thinner neck?
The Ibanez Soundgear basses are well known for having thinner necks, you can check those out. Fender Jazz basses (Squire Jazz basses too) have thinner necks, but you may also want to check out 3/4 sized basses with a 30″ scale (short scale) instead of a full sized bass.
